Sunday Night Tennis
The Sunday Night Tennis group will be starting up in mid Sept. playing from 6pm to 8pm at the Ridgefield Athletic Complex.  We are looking for doubles players for full and part time.  Full time would be around 33 of the 37 dates and part timers would be roughly half of that.  We are certainly more flexible on schedules than we are as athletes.  Please contact Bill Owens for more information.

Holy Land Pilgrimage

Would you like to walk where Jesus walked?  In partnership with Education Opportunities, Pastor Bill Pfohl will lead a 10 day Holy Land pilgrimage from November 2-11, 2010.  This trip will include visits to Bethlehem and the shepherds’ field where the story of Christmas will take on a whole new meaning.  We will spend time in Nazareth where Jesus grew up and visit many sites surrounding the Sea of Galilee including Capernaum, the Mount of Beatitudes and the Church of the Fish and Loaves, among many others.  The pilgrimage will include other important biblical sites before we turn toward Jerusalem, and experience the power and mystery of that ancient city, and the most revered places in Christendom.  If you are interested in making this journey please contact Pastor Bill.

Help the TLC Hospitality Team

Are you searching for a way to help others in your spare time, on your schedule?   Do you like to cook?  Do people tell say you’re a great organizer? Well, the Jesse Lee hospitality team (with about 50 current members) has just the place for you! This ministry helps prevent last-minute scrambles for volunteers to provide food or help for events and short-term meal assistance for families in need of support, and team members tell us they appreciate knowing that there are others to volunteer when they aren’t available.
We operate as an e-mail registry of volunteers who regularly or just occasionally respond to requests. When an event during the year would benefit from an expression of gracious hospitality, the members of the registry would be contacted and whoever feels called to share their gifts at that time would work as a hospitality team for that particular event.
As Pastor Bill would say, “no arm-twisting or guilt-pushing tactics, just a loving expectation that you will want to share so that the blessing of God will flow through you and to you.”
So if you love to bake or cook at home or with a group at church, make centerpieces or decorations for a special occasion on your own time, take great pride in neatly or artistically arranging food on platters, setting a beautiful table or are good at organizing events, to name a few possibilities.  Sign up now at JesseLeeTLC  AT gmail.com

Volunteers in Missionvolunteers
What is VIM
A United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) team is one that serves locally, nationally, or internationally where it is invited; works in a ministry endorsed by the host Methodist church, partner church or agency, or nongovernment organization (NGO); and serves in cooperation with the local host group.
The UMVIM motto, “Christian Love in Action,” is taken from 1John 3:18, in which Christians are asked to love “not in word or speech, but in truth and action.” Living our faith is at the very heart of our Christian calling and reflects the purpose that has grown out of our understanding of who we are and what we want to be: those who express “Christian Love in Action.”

3 Simple Rules
The church is in the process of forming covenant groups to offer encouragement and gentle accountability.  These small groups will meet weekly or bi-weekly for approximately one hour in which individuals will share how they are doing on their spiritual walk.  The format for this sharing revolves around the 3 simple rules developed by Methodist founder John Wesley:  Do No Harm, Do Good, and Stay in Love with God.  Each small group will decide how they will “report in” at each gathering.  When Jesse Lee formed in 1789 it was a group like this that was started, and in fact this experience is the most authentic quality of a people called Methodists.  John called it Holy Conferencing.  We know that calendars are full, but there is a difference between “running our race right” and “running the right race.”  There will be a variety of ways to form a small group, please look for information in the narthex.
